BAT CARE

KNOCKING IN

All King Brown Cricket Bats are made from English Willow (Salix Alba Caerulea), a very soft willow which allows for optimum performance. As such it is imperative that detailed preparation is engaged prior to the use of a cricket ball.

Step 1.

This step should be undertaken carefully using a wooden bat mallet.
Repeatedly strike the bat with the mallet, gradually increasing force. Pay particular attention to the edges and toe of the bat, however they should not be struck on right angles. Glance the mallet off the face as though you were to edge the cricket ball.

Step 2.

Once step one is completed take your bat to the nets with an old, soft leather ball.
Begin hitting catches and gradually work up to gentle throw downs, playing in a reserved manner.
Start increasing the power of which you are hitting the ball with, inspecting your bat after each shot.
If noticeable seam marks occur, return to step one.

Step 3.

Once steps one and two have been completed it’s time to use your bat in a live net session. Using an old, soft leather ball once again play in a reserved manner, gradually increasing the power of shots. If seam marks are visible you should return to step 2.
If no seam marks are visible, slowly move towards a newer ball. Try to avoid a brand-new ball for as long as possible.

Apply a clear Anti-Scuff sheet for added protection. This is a great way to help extend the life of your cricket bat. Anti-Scuff sheets will seal the face of the cricket bat, eliminating the need for oil on the face of the bat.
Please remember that although an Anti-Scuff sheet will help protect your bat, it will not completely prevent surface cracking.

We recommend replacing your scuff sheet at the beginning or end of each season to help increase the longevity of your cricket bat.
